Yup, we’re complying with the blog writer pattern that seems to be sweeping the internets: our kiddos officially have a playhouse. It was really a gift from my mom for their joint birthdays back in the spring (yes, our 7-year-old as well as 3-year-old both agreed on exactly one thing, as well as it was that they desired a bit outside home to phone call their own). “No grown-ups allowed” was really uttered during the request. So we looked around for one we believed they’d both like that wouldn’t break Nonna’s budget. We came across this adorable playhouse that was made from solid cedar, was the right price, as well as even had bit flower pot holders out front.
So we sent my mom the link, enjoyed a plethora of excited emojis that she sent back in return, as well as together with the text that said: “it’s going to be provided in seven days, as well as it states you have to assemble it. hope it’s not as well complicated!”

Turns out it was quite straightforward, however it did need a couple hours to put together. perhaps it would’ve gone quicker had we had this super-handy looking “Adult Helper” pictured in the instructions. That guy appears like he’s prepared to kick butt as well as take names. Although his inflamed thumb concerns me. as well as why is he showing up with a saw?
Every piece was pre-cut, pre-drilled, as well as identified so it wasn’t much different than putting together a piece of Ikea furniture. I’d just suggest laying all of the pieces out so you can see their labels as well as grab things more quickly than keeping half of the materials in the box as well as digging around for hours looking for L2.
Once it comes together, everything feels super solid. You can see exactly how the roof slats are not only firmly attached, however they interlock. as well as there’s a full kitchen area inside (which I didn’t even notice when we chosen it) total with burners with knobs as well as a sink for…. washing squirrels? I don’t understand what goes on in there. Remember: no grown-ups allowed.
At first, we had it up on the deck (this was still back in April, hence those bit “pollen worms” you can see on the deck), but the youngsters quite quickly requested that we move it down in the grass so they might be further away. Refer back to: no grown-ups allowed.
So right here it is out in the yard. So small as well as cute!
We grabbed a few $1 pavers at house Depot to put under it so it wouldn’t sit on the ground as well as rot or something. plus the youngsters like that there’s a floor in there that they can sit on (that’s our child in there sitting down and… washing squirrels?!?!).
It doesn’t include the flower pots (just the holders) so I just utilized faux flowers in a black pot that I already had from Ikea. It might be fun to plant seeds with the youngsters as well as watch them grow available too. Although the deer would most likely eat anything we’d plant in there… perhaps lavender would work?
Before it arrived, I wasn’t truly sure exactly how much they’d utilize it together (would they even both fit?!), however they end up in there together a lot. as well as sometimes they play a game that includes holding hands as well as pretending that the kitchen area dials as well as spigots are controls as well as they’re “driving with space.”
Also, this is a weird sidenote, however it has an actual doorknob that latches which is a surprisingly huge hit. They always make sure it’s firmly closed when they leave. It’s wonderful to see exactly how well youngsters treat something when they feel like it’s “all theirs.”
It’s not almost as embellished as a few of the playhouses available these days (I’ve seen doormats as well as flags as well as bridges as well as window treatments – as well as they can look amazing when people paint them like this, including this adorable makeover to this precise exact same playhouse) however the natural cedar goes with our brick home quite well, as well as John “Practical” Petersik explained that a painted home out in the woods might look quite dingy, quite fast. The great news is that even if you buy a playhouse as well as assemble it… the youngsters will like it. as well as it really looks truly wonderful available just the method it is. like a small log cabin, where the youngsters go to getaway adults as well as sometimes to “drive with space.”
Psst – right here are a lot of other kid-related updates as well as projects, including things that we developed from scratch (like this dollhouse) or “hacked” (like this cabinet-turned-play kitchen).
